Little Wandle Phonics and Early Reading in Early Years
NCETM Maths in Reception
At St Paul's School, the new NCETM Mastering Number programme provides children with rich and engaging opportunities to develop a deep understanding of early mathematics. Our 2026 curriculum planning covers all key areas of mathematical learning, including cardinality and counting, comparison, composition, pattern, shape and space, and measures. Through practical experiences, mathematical talk and purposeful play, children build confidence, fluency and problem-solving skills, creating strong foundations for future success in mathematics.
The documents below provide an overview of the six areas of mathematical learning and show how we cover the curriculum throughout the year. You will also find a range of activities and ideas that can be completed at home to support your child's mathematical development and reinforce their learning in a fun and meaningful way.
