Allergy Advice

We follow our school's Allergy Policy to help keep all children safe. All staff receive regular training in allergy awareness, safer eating practices and the management of medical needs. It is essential that parents inform the school of any known allergies, intolerances or medical conditions before their child starts and whenever there are any changes. Any prescribed medication, including allergy medication such as antihistamines or auto-injectors, must be brought directly to the school office by a parent or carer so that the appropriate paperwork can be completed and staff can be informed and trained as necessary. Working together helps us to provide a safe and supportive environment for every child.

This year we have children with dairy allergies with us.

Please do not be offended if we support your child getting changed due to spillages of food or if we ask your child to change on arrival at the start of their day or session with us.

For this reason, a full change of clothes must always be left on your child's peg and remain in school.

(This does not have to be school uniform)

For full information on St Paul’s C of E Primary School's approach to allergy management, please see our attached policy.

Lunch Box Guidance for Parents

To support the strengthened Safer Eating requirements within the EYFS Statutory Framework, we kindly ask parents to prepare lunch boxes with safety in mind. Please ensure that foods are cut into appropriate sizes for young children. For example, grapes, cherry tomatoes and large berries should be cut lengthways, and any foods that may present a choking risk should be avoided. Children should be familiar with the foods provided and encouraged to eat independently. We also ask that lunch boxes contain healthy, balanced choices and a clearly labelled drink bottle. By working together, we can help ensure that mealtimes are safe, enjoyable and positive for all children.

Safe Lunchbox Ideas

  • Sandwiches, wraps or pitta pockets cut into manageable pieces
  • Cheese cubes or slices
  • Cucumber, pepper sticks or cooked vegetable sticks
  • Apple, pear or melon slices
  • Grapes and cherry tomatoes cut lengthways
  • Yoghurts, fromage frais or soft cheese portions
  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Pasta salad or rice salad
  • Crackers with cheese spread or hummus
  • Water or milk in a clearly labelled bottle

Please note: Whole nuts and foods containing whole nuts are not permitted in school due to allergy and choking risks.

Celebrating Birthdays

We know that children in EYFS love to celebrate their birthdays and some families would like to send in treats for the children. We kindly ask that these are healthy items such as fruit rather than sweets or chocolate. Please note that there is no obligation for anyone to bring in anything on their birthday

P.E.

P.E. is on Thursday afternoons for all Reception children and all Nursery children who attend on a Thursday afternoon. All children, including those in nursery, will need to wear their 'house colour' P.E. top and black P.E. bottoms. Please send your child to school on a Thursday in their P.E. kit as they do not get changed in school.
