Autumn 1

PE Days This Half Term

PE days this half term will be Monday and Tuesday.

  • Monday: Tag rugby with Mr Barnes
  • Tuesday: Dance with Mr Broad

Please remember to send your child to school in their PE kit and with a water bottle on these days.

Forest School

You will receive an email with the dates for Forest School and information about the clothing your child will need.

Forest School sessions take place on Tuesday afternoons, whatever the weather. Please ensure that your child comes to school dressed appropriately for the weather on the day. Lightweight, long trousers and long sleeves are recommended to help avoid irritation from plants and insects.

Your child will also need a pair of wellies. However, we kindly ask that children do not come into school wearing them. Instead, they should come to school wearing trainers or PE pumps and bring their wellies with them.

Please ensure that your child has a spare change of clothes in school on Forest School days, as they often get very muddy and wet!

DT

You will receive a letter during this half-term with information about our cooking unit in DT.

Allergy Advice

We have children in school with severe dairy allergies that can cause serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.

Please do not be offended if we ask your child to get changed following a food or drink spillage during the school day, or if we ask them to change their clothes when they arrive at school.

For this reason, a full change of clothes must always be left on your child’s peg and remain in school. This does not need to be school uniform.

Book Bags

Book bags will go home on Fridays and should be returned to school on Tuesdays.

Your child will bring home a Phonics Big Cat Collins book to read to you. Your child has read this book three times with adult support during the week. The purpose of bringing it home is to help increase their fluency. Rereading is a proven way to build confidence when applying their phonics knowledge.

The other books in their book bag may contain words that your child is not yet able to read independently. These books are there for you to share and talk about together. As your child grows in confidence, they may also want to have a go at reading all of the books themselves.

Home Learning Expectations In Year 1/2

  • Reading Daily – Please do your best to read with your child every day. Please return their books to school on your child’s designated reading day so that they can be changed. Please ask us if you are unsure which day this is.
  • Maths – Please play lots of number and counting games with your child, such as Snakes and Ladders and games using dice. We have also recently started using Numbots, and children have been given their login details.
  • Please also look at the Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs) linked below. Your child will significantly benefit from reinforcing their learning at home by practising these facts with you.

Maths Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs)

Below are links to the Year 1 and Year 2 Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs). Please work on these at home with your child as often as you can.

Rapid recall of these facts will help your child to feel more confident, access their maths learning in class more quickly and easily, and be ready to move on to the next set of Key Instant Recall Facts.

The KIRFs for this term are shown below.
