Autumn 2

P.E.

PE lessons this half-term will be Monday and Wednesday.

Monday: Handball or Hockey with Mrs Newbold

Wednesday: Swimming at Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre

Children should come to school in PE kit weather appropriate.

Swimming

Swimming lessons start promptly at 9.00 until 9.30.

Mr Barnes will be at the pool from 8.40, giving enough time to drop siblings at school afterwards.

Mrs Newbold will walk to the pool with Breakfast Club children leaving school at 8.40.

Children can come with swimming costumes on under normal school clothes and swimming hats already on.

Swim hats are recommended. We don't have time to use hairdryers before returning to school.

All jewellery should be removed, including stud earrings.

Please note that dinner choices for Wednesday will be made on Tuesday afternoon.

Allergy Advice

At school, we have children with severe allergies causing  anaphylaxis.  For this reason, all children should only bring nut and dairy-free morning break snacks. Please check the ingredients listed on all potential snacks. Fruit is ideal.

Please do not be offended if we ask your child to get changed due to spillages of food during the day.

For this reason, a full change of clothes should be left on your child's peg and remain in school (this does not have to be school uniform).

Reading Books and Diaries

With the introduction of Little Wandle Reading groups in across KS2 from November, arrangements for book returns are to be decided. Please watch this space for more information.

Home Learning Expectations

Spelling and maths homework will be brought home on Fridays to be returned on Wednesdays.

  • Spellings: Spellings are taught in school weekly and will be sent home to practise. Please ensure your child writes engaging, well-punctuated sentences for 5 of the words.
  • Maths: Paper-based maths homework will be based on their learning during the week.
  • Times Tables Rockstars: Encourage children to login and regularly practise their times tables.

Please also look at the half-termly Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRF's) below.  Rapid recall of these maths facts will help your child to feel more confident in maths lessons.

Forest School

Forest school for 3/4B will take place during the Spring Term.

You will receive an email with the dates for Forest School and information about suitable clothing.

Forest School sessions take place on Thursday afternoons – regardless of the weather.

They are taught by Miss Berte. Please ensure that your child comes to school dressed appropriately for the weather that day.

Lightweight, long trousers and long sleeves are recommended to help avoid irritation from plants and insects.

Your child will also need a pair of wellies.  However, we ask that children do not come into school wearing them.  Instead, they should come to school wearing trainees or PE pumps and bring their wellies with them.

It can be useful to have a spare set of clothes for these days as the children can often get muddy and wet.
