Autumn 2

P.E.

PE lessons this half-term will be Tuesday and Wednesday.

  • Tuesday: Tag Rugby with Mr Barnes
  • Wednesday: Dance with Mrs Clarke

Please remember to send your child into school with their PE Kit on these days.

Tuesday's sessions will usually be outside, subject to weather conditions. Please ensure your child is suitably dressed for the time of year.

Forest School

You will receive an email with the dates for Forest school and information about suitable clothing.

Forest School sessions take place on Thursday afternoons – regardless of the weather.

They are taught by Mrs Berte. Please ensure that your child comes to school dressed appropriately for the weather that day.

Lightweight, long trousers and long sleeves are recommended to help avoid irritation from plants and insects.

Your child will also need a pair of wellies.  However, we kindly ask that children do not come into school wearing them.  Instead, they should come to school wearing trainees or PE pumps and bring their wellies with them.

If possible it can be useful to have a spare set of clothes for these days as the children can often get muddy and wet.

Allergy Advice

In our class we have a child with a severe dairy allergy causing  anaphylaxis.  There is also another pupil  in Key Stage 1 . For this reason, all children must only bring nut and dairy free snacks. Fruit is ideal.

Please do not be offended if we ask your child to get changed due to spillages of food during the day or if we ask your child to change on arrival at the start of their day.

For this reason,  a full change of clothes must always be left on your child's peg and remain in school. (this does not have to be school uniform).

Book Bags

Book bags will go home on Fridays and should be returned to school on Wednesdays unless your child has finished their book and would like to change it sooner.

Reading books are graded, so your child will be able to read them comfortably with you.  The purpose of bringing their book home is to improve their reading fluency and also to encourage them to talk about the story and help develop their understanding of what they have read.

Children will also bring a library book home to read – this is one that they have been able to choose for their enjoyment.

You may also find flashcards in the bag – these will be common exception words your child needs to practise at home as well as at school.

Whenever possible, please listen to your child read every day. This is the most important 'homework' that you can do with your child and makes an enormous difference to progress in all subjects. Your child will also benefit greatly from being read to on a regular basis. Sharing a book at bedtime is a lovely way for both you and your child to spend quality time together.

Also, the reading record can be a place for you to record pages read, but can also be used for children to draw an illustration of the story read or express an opinion.

Water bottles

Please could all children have a named water bottle in school every day. Provided that it contains water, they will be allowed to keep this on their desk so that they can drink as often as they wish to. These should be taken home each night to be washed and refilled.

Home learning expectations in Year 3

Homework will be brought home on a Friday and should be returned on Wednesday. There is advice for you inside their books but please do email if you have any queries.

  • Daily reading – Please do your best to read with your child every day. Please return their books to school on Wednesdays so that they can be changed.

  • Spellings – These will come home every Friday and be tested on a Thursday. Inside their homework books you will find a spelling guide for advice on different ways to learn them.  Finding creative ways to learn can really help embed them into their motor memory: writing in sand, writing them in the air ,making them from play dough or writing in different fonts and colours on a computer are all really fun, effective ways to help them learn.

  • Maths – Children have log-in details for Timetable Rockstars glued inside their homework books. This is a really fun way to help your child learn their multiplication tables.  Each Friday your child will also have one sheet of maths homework stuck inside their homework book.  This will be to consolidate learning from the week's lessons.

Having instant recall of number bonds to 20  is so important for your child. We have a selection of fun           games you can play with your child using UNO cards to develop their understanding. If you would like            copies of these, please ask.

  • Please also look at the Key Instant Recall Facts(KIRF's) linked below.  Your child will significantly benefit from reinforcing their learning at school by practising these facts with you. Rapid recall of these facts will help your child to feel more confident and access their learning in class more quickly and easily. The KIRF's listed below are for this term.

White Rose home learning

We have just completed the Autumn term unit Place Value and are now working through Addition and Subtraction.  If you would like to support their learning, then please follow the link below for Home Learning where a series of videos will demonstrate how we teach and what we cover.
